The engine “breaker“

This man is taking engines apart to separate the different components. He uses a small metal chainsaw powered by a generator. This allows him to extract the copper that is worth 30 times more than ferrous metals.

We met him while he was hard at work at the Bonneuil-sur-Marne port, close to a wholesale scrap dealer to whom he sells his harvest.

His rhythm involves two days of gleaning in the streets of the Paris agglomeration, followed by a day of taking engines apart. He always works here at this spot, a small “urban wasteland” where he knows he can work undisturbed.
